Great Times with Great Friends

Whew! What a weekend!

Mike, Joey & I went to Hernando, Mississippi to visit my very best friend in the whole world (Tina) and her family. Hernando is right over the TN/MS border as is Memphis. We went down to Beale Street & had a great time shopping around & waiting forever at a restauarant that really wasn't worth the wait. Saturday night, Mike & I took Joey to watch a live UFC event (107)...he had an absolute BLAST! Afterwards, Tina and a friend of hers met us at the hotel while we 'got down' with the fighters & got lots of autographs & pictures! :) That morning we woke up to get Waffle House & of course it made Mike really sick as usual! We had to hang out at the house for a while to get him feeling better then we headed down to Tunica for some gambling action with Tina & her dad. It was so fun! Of course I came out ahead & Mike lost what I won PLUS some...go figure: ;) I am the Roulette QUEEN! :D We didn't get much sleep while we were there, so I am still trying to catch up on sleep.

Have a Very Merry Christmas!

New beginnings, Anniversaries, & LEAKS!

Ok, so it has been a long while since I last posted. I have been outrageously busy & don't even remember where I left off.

To start things off, we noticed about 2 months ago that our water bill was a little higher than normal ($41) and thought ok, maybe it was because we were watering flowers & such?? Then...$200!!!!! SOMETHING was wrong. We had a plumber come by for a consultation & turns out we had a leak in the pipe on the outside of the house going TO the meter. It was our responsibility to fix it...not something we wanted to hear, BUT we needed to do something about it. He gave us an estimate of $1385 and I needed a crash cart to start my heart back up, haha. I called my dad for advice & turns out he just replaced his a couple of years ago & would come by to start digging. PHEW...relief!!! He called a friend of his (he has SOOOO many contacts) and got us a hookup for free copper pipe (apparently that is the mac-daddy of piping). The whole thing was going to cost us TIME...nothing more! :) I thank God everyday for my wonderful family. My dad & dad-in-law dug & dug until finally they made it to the house! Now to lay the pipe. Mike and I have been having to turn our water off & on as we needed it from the meter which is a huge pain & very inconvenient! Tomorrow it will be fixed & we will have our water back to normal.

We had a few celebrations since my last post. Some friends of ours are having a baby at the end of this month...Jakson Earnest Burfitt! We can't WAIT for him to come! I went to their baby shower a couple of months ago and are headed over tonight for hamburgers on the grill!

My best friend growing up as well as Mike's best friend growing up got married the day before the baby shower I attended. They recently had a baby (I say recently, but it was back in March) Laney Iylene Honeycutt and decided to tie the knot and make it official. :) We are so happy for all of our friends & their new beginnings.

Shortly after, Mike and I celebrated our 1-year anniversary!!! Mike had a big bouquet of wildflowers sent to my office the Friday before. They were beautiful!!! Saturday night we went to Chops steakhouse & it was wonderful! We would definitely go again and recommend to our friends. Sunday (the day OF) we spent all day doing lots of yard work & cleaning up. My little brother, Joey came over to help so we treated him to sushi & a movie afterwards.

It's a tradition of ours to attend the Apple Festival up in Ellijay (where my Nanne resides), so Mike and I headed up to visit my grandmother & do some apple shopping. :) Of course we headed home with a 1/2 peck of delicious apples & shared with friends who weren't able to make it due to sickness. :)

Mike's soccer is ALMOST over. We have 1 more weekend after this weekend of games & I am SOO anxious for the end of it. Soccer takes up so much of our time and I feel disconnected from friends throughout the whole season! Ick. I do feel blessed that Mike has the opportunity to do what he loves & share his passion for the sport with children who are willing to learn. It's also great practice for when we have our own little soccer player. :)

I had the busiest week at work I have ever had. I was the only project director in the office and was doing triple the work I usually had, so the weekend didn't come fast enough. :)

Friday night, Mike and I went to see Funny people before we went home to sleep. Saturday we had to get up pretty early for a weekend to see a friend of ours compete in a Jiu Jitsu tournament (HE WON!) and then to Phipps we went. We had some things to return before going to see The Ugly Truth afterwards. Sunday is typically our day of rest & laundry & cleaning, but we didn't feel like sitting at home all day, so we decided to go to the Atlanta History Center to learn a little about the beautiful city we both grew up in. We spent all day today in Atlanta touring homes, driving down backroads on W Paces Ferry to look at all the extravagant homes (something we both enjoy) and dream about perhaps living amongst them one day ... dreams of course.

Sweet & Sour

Ok, well, the pictures fell through on Saturday when Mike's entire family (with the exception of his mother) got sick...very sick. We all thought they had the swine flu!!! They are much better now, but since we didn't get our pics taken, Mike and I met my parents at the lake to cruise on my dad's boat and ride their jet-ski. It was really fun and the best way to spend the day in the sun!!! Afterwards, we rushed home to get ready for an upsetting night at my parents' house to watch the UFC 100. Brock Lesnar BEAT the heck outta Frank Mir & created a mockery of the sport. It was awful and the whole night was off. Sunday was a relaxation day for Mike & I. We met his parents for brunch at O'Charleys and then went home where we didn't come out of reclusion until we woke up this morning to go to work.

UFC 100

Another busy busy weekend ahead...

I have an important meeting at work on a SATURDAY at 10am...YIKES!! :) I have to head home directly afterwards to get ready for family portraits that afternoon with UFC 100 following that night!!!!!!! Mike has been talking about this since March when we went to Columbus, OH to watch it live. He has been so psyched and can hardly stand to sit for 5 minutes without discussing some extent of Ultimate Fighting; this is supposed to be the best card of the year (or so I've heard). I must say I am looking forward to it as well...it's a great time hanging out with my family which we hardly get to be with my parents due to dad's work schedule (he's on swing shift) and Joey's busy extracurriculars.

Independence Day Weekend

Wow! What a weekend! Mike and I had his nephey, Payton, this weekend from Thursday night thru Saturday night. We woke up early on Friday morning to take Payton & Joey to Stone Mountain where Mike & Joe waited for 90 minutes to do the SkyHike where it was supposed to take another 2 hours to complete. In the meantime, Payton & I went to climb logs & play in the small creek after we watched the Journey to the Center of the Earth in 4D (Which he LOVED). Afterwards, we decided to take the Scenic Railroad (Thomas the Train's Friend ;) ) while Payton napped. We spent the rest of the day on the lawn waiting on the laser show to begin with fireworks following.

Saturday was just as busy (if not busier) with a Marta ride to the zoo and back to Centennial Olympic park to watch the fireworks there. We took Payton down to the ring of fountains to play and it was PACKED OUT! We were a little nervous since we didn't want to get wet & we were having to watch Payton with 100s of other children without doing so. :) The fireworks were a little bit of a letdown from Stone Mountain's firework show, but it was fun nonetheless. After the show ended, a drunk & stoned-out-of-her-mind woman came up to use our cell phone because she had lost her husband. We had to wait with this 40-something year old woman while she found him. Needless to say, we didn't get out of the park until just about everyone else had left...bummer! We dropped Payton off with his parents & went home to sleep until noon.

Sunday was a day of relaxation! We did some laundry, watched 2 movies & I never even came out of my pajamas. MUCH NEEDED!

Soccer Tourney

The weekend was great! We had a 3v3 soccer tournament where Mike played on TWO teams! Noone could believe he could do it, which made him work harder & prove them wrong; which he did. He played from 9:00 Saturday morning until 7:00 Saturday night in 85-90 degree weather with MAYBE an hour in between 1 or 2 of his 10 games! I was constantly filling up his water bottle, throwing him ice towels, walking from one field to the next & still trying to find time to catch a couple of Joey's games. It all paid off in the end, because Mike "brought home the gold" (as he likes to put it). He put his trophy on our mantle. I am letting him keep it there for a little while so he can bask in his glory, but it eventually needs to come down. ;) Afterwards, we went to a celebratory dinner with his parents at Ted's (my favorite restaurant) and went home to sleep, sleep, and then get MORE sleep. We slept until almost 9:30 Sunday morning and got up to clean house & go to a movie with our bests (Matt & Hilary) followed by Ted's...again. (It really is my favorite.) All in all, it was a great weekend.

Busy but Fun

This past weekend was packed with fun yet diverse activities. We started off the weekend by going out to see The Land of the Lost with my mom and hitting up Chik-Fil-A afterwards for a free sandwich (can't pass that up). It was Joey's last day of school, so I picked him up after getting off work early and we hung out for a while before he decided it was way cooler to hang out & play soccer with his friends.

Saturday, Mike & I woke up early to do some yard work. Trees were cut down, gutters were cleaned out, bushes were trimmed, flowers were planted, and I was watching. ;) I don't mind planting flowers & getting my hands dirty, but when climbing ladders & carrying big branches to the backyard is involved, I make up whatever excuse I can to get out of it; today it was cleaning house. I did clean up a bit, but there really wasn't much to clean, so I watched the boys get THEIR hands dirty & bruised.

A friend of the family graduated Friday, so his parents threw him a gradauation party Saturday night. We had a great time eating mexican food, hanging out with friends & enjoying the beautiful weather! We weren't able to stay the whole night like most, because we had a date planned with Mike's parents at the Punchline comedy club in Roswell to see Josh Sneed who was absolutely hilarious. Afterwards we hit up the Shoneys to get a hot fudge cake, which, unbeknownst to me, is apparently tradition in the Summers' household. We finally got to bed around 1:30 in the morning...that is late for Mike & I...(we're old).

Sunday was uneventful with more yard work that I helped with & soccer for the boys. Sunday night, Mike & I got to bed pretty early and watched a couple of episodes of Dexter which is our NEW favorite show! If you haven't watched...it's amazing!

This coming weekend should be fun as well with Joey & Mike playing in a soccer tournament & trying to fit in time to bring Rocky to the dog park which he has missed so much!

Work after Work

Mike's precious boys

Mike has had soccer tryouts all week, which has put me stuck at home doing laundry, cleaning house, & watching tear-jerking lifetime movies on demand. He is also leaving work early today to go play golf, so I thought it wise to get out & get a much needed pedicure with Hilary & possibly do some shopping around!

This weekend is going to be busy busy. My dad will be bringing his chainsaw over to the house to help cut some big limbs off trees so that we can finally grow some grass in those shady areas in our yard! **relief** I have grass seed to spread, mulch to lay, flowers to plant and after that...

The end of the season soccer banquet is Saturday night at one of the parent's house, so I have to get busy setting that up after yard work is done. Should be fun. Mike always stresses about these things, because he has to come up with nice words for each of his 13 players...he's not much of a public speaker. He's been doing it for about 4 years now, so he will SOME day get the hang of it.

The weather this weekend is supposed to be really nice, so I am going to try and get dad to take his boat out to the lake so we can do some skiing & tubing for the first time this year. We must take advantage of the lovely weather while we can...this has been one wet season and I'm hoping it's not a foreshadow of what is to come this summer. Speaking of which, I am also hoping that Graduation Day is not rained out for our graduate's sake. We have a couple this year between Mike's side and my own, which also means we have presents to buy.

Looking forward to a busy weekend & a busier week next week in the office.

Standing in the Gazebo before we were married...the weather was PERFECT!

Hi there! Welcome to our blog. This is my first post and I am not quite sure what to write on this thing, but will do my best. :)

Mike & I got married after dating for almost 7 years. We started dating in high school (much to my parents dismay as he was 18 and I 15) during his senior year. He left for LaGrange College to pursue what he had always dreamed of doing...playing college soccer. He played for a couple of years in LaGrange and transferred to Berry College in Rome, GA where he got his bachelors degree in Business Management in 2006.

We bought our first house on November 28, 2007 and moved in on December 24. There was a lot of work to be done and we each had very capable fathers who we thank every day for helping us get so much work done in less than 1 month. We did everything including hardwood floors throughout, except two bedrooms, new light fixtures in every room, paint on every wall, refurbishing the cabinets in our kitchen, new countertops, new bathroom vanities, NEW EVERYTHING! We ran into many obstacles, but the outcome was the perfect first home for Mike & me! I have posted some before & after pics.

Once we lived together for a couple of months, we decided it was best to go ahead & make it official and get married. Romantic, huh? 8 months later, I became Mrs. Michael Wayne Summers. :)

That's our backstory, so I will do my best to keep up with this thing.
